Visiting Düsseldorf often for business reasons I never had the time or had been in the mood for taking serious photographs. What a shame!

Eventually last summer I made a day trip to the capital of North Rhine-Westphalia and focussed on architectural details in Media Harbour (“Medienhafen”) and at “Kö-Bogen”.

Media Harbour still is a place where ships berth. In the past mainly steel and pipes were loaded. As heavy industry and supplying businesses declined the eastern part of the docks was converted to office spaces and hotels attracting media and design companies.

Modern buildings designed by well known architects surround the water area.

The water surface plays tricks with ones eyes.

The Rheinturm towers the harbour and the city.

Curved facades call attention and relax at the very same time.

Speed and angles create tension the classical way.

Modern architecture reflects itself.

The “Kö-Bogen” recently has undergone a substantial redesign which is not yet fully implemented.

Reduced to lines details of the “Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus” look like a contemporary abstract painting.
